Volunteer

Volunteers can have a tremendous impact

Each volunteer who comes to PCR arrives with a set of skills and experiences to offer as well as specific volunteer interests and goals of their own.  At PCR, each volunteer works with the Volunteer Coordinator to create a position that is of mutual benefit to our agency, the clients, as well as the volunteer.  We not only welcome, but encourage volunteers to think creatively as to how they would like to contribute.

There are many ways for volunteers to make a difference at PCR. If you (or your group) are interested in volunteering, please contact Courtney Hanson, Program Manager at courtney@pcrchi.org. All volunteers will complete a required New Volunteer Application.

Below are current volunteer positions at PCR:

Community Mobilizer:  PCR is seeking community mobilizers to help organize residents of Southeast Chicago.  Mobilizers will work with the Executive Director to mobilize residents around employment, environment, and housing issues.  Duties might include identifying potential community leaders, raising awareness of social issues, and assisting residents in accessing social services.  Qualified volunteers will have experience working with diverse communities, work well independently, and have excellent communication skills.  Previous mobilization experience desired, but not required. Approximately ten hour/week commitment required. Must submit resume with detailed work experience.

Contributing Web Correspondent: PCR is seeking writers and multimedia producers to contribute to the maintenance of our organization’s website and social media. The website will contain information on environmental justice issues, environmental health, and stories from residents in Southeast Chicago. Contributors will attend a weekly hour-long editorial meeting where topics will be discussed and assigned (telecommuting possible). Volunteers will then be responsible for the creation of one submission per week or one multimedia piece every other week, which will be posted on PCR’s website. Qualified volunteers will have superior writing or multimedia production skills (including video, audio or photo), work well independently, and communicate complex ideas and messages in a simple way.  Approximately five hour/week commitment required. Must submit resume with detailed work experience, writing samples and/or provide links to online video/audio /photo samples to apply
